Councillor Jacquie Speight
As a corporate parent it is crucial that I and my fellow councillors do everything we can to ensure that the children and young people in the Council’s care are able to lead, safe and fulfilling lives.
As I am also the Council’s portfolio holder for Culture, Sport and Leisure I have been able to look at what that service can do to enhance the lives of young people and ensure that every child in the district gets a chance to learn to swim and enjoy the same activities as any other family, including access to certain programmes within the Council’s leisure facilities.
Our Museums and Castles service provides, during the summer holidays, sessions for children aged 5-12 years and 13-16 years. The activities are all connected to our sites, their history and our collections and include role play, games, physical activity, sensory activities and messy crafts, all of which enable the children to better express their emotions with each other and their support workers and, of course, have fun.
