26th Oct to 1st Nov was Care Leavers' Week. The 16+ Next Steps Forum devised a week of activities to celebrate ambitions, hopes and dreams
Care Leavers, Brendon, Shannon, Shannon and Casey and staff Fay and Richard Joined Phil from the Music Service to record their vocals to the Next Steps Song, "You're Not Alone"
The song was written over zoom by Phillip, Chloe, Celina and Shannon during lockdown and reflects the themes of challenging stereotypes, working with each other, and being ambitious.
Monday was the first time to get people together to record the song with rap artist and fellow care leaver, Brendon.

A group of care leavers got together to eat and watch a questionable halloween film and have a good chat with the new Next Steps Manager Helen and Personal Advisor, Lorainne
Tom from Sports and Leisure Services met with five care leavers to practice football skills and challenges These contactless games were loved and there was plenty of laughter until it started hail stoning. Luckily Fish and Chips arrived and everyone went home satisfied and a bit wet.

Care Leavers from Wakefield met up with young people from other West Yorkshire Forums where we showcased our Next Steps Song and hosted a Bingo game and a treasure hunt. The Bingo was a bit of a flop but the treasure hunt was a right laugh!
We met at Lightwaves for our annual meal. Celest and Personal Advisor Chris got dressed up to host the Pub quiz and there were loads of prizes for everyone and a slap up takeaway. Councillor Isherwood opened the meeting and talked with care leavers about things like isolation during lockdown and digital poverty. the group also did some work around the Local Offer for Care Leavers which is being updated.
