The Corporate Parenting Committee is one of the ways Wakefield Council use to check they are doing the best they can for children in care.

The Corporate Parenting Committee is made up of Councillors, Council Officers (people employed by the Council to carry out a specific job) and representatives from other organisations such as Barnardo’s and the NHS.

Every meeting, Councillors are given reports about different aspects of life for Children in Care, It tells them about education, health, fostering and adoption, and things like how often we see our social worker and how many children have up to date life story work.

The most important group of people to attend Committee meetings is the Build Our Futures Children in Care Council group. They attend every other meeting, decide what they’d like to talk about, and run the meeting.

We also meet up three times a year to do activities and training with the corporate parents.  Last year we did chocolate Truffle making and an escape room!

It is very important for them to hear what we have to say about what life is really like for us. it gives them ideas for how to make improvements so that The Council can give us the best experience possible whilst in care.
